Tom Friend OH May 12, 5 ft black

Manitoba bear hunts
2nd time to Big Grass Tom knows what is happening. He does know if farmer is in sight fencing that possiblity of bear coming in is NOT GOOD. But oh well farmer must get his work done right!! and it is a nice evening we will just enjoy. Right Tom!! Enough crap lets kill a bear, John and Judy go baiting and come back with bear crap photos.!!! and some good stories. Brian and Tom will move to new spots, we hunt a new stand and Tom is set. Well he was set. Bears coming and going, He was pumped. He got great video and he made a great shot and he got a great bear. Wow three things that is AN Extra Charge. OH yes he hit the red barrel and that is even a larger charge!!!! I hope check is in the MAIL…….. Tom is a great hunter, good sport and good friend.  The rest of the story is……….. not sure how to put it to words but we are still laughing, John picked Tom from the stand in the dark, as luck would have it behind the stand in thick underbrush on the  QUAD TRAIL Toms bear happened to takes its last breathe. However due to conditons, Bump Bump was named. YOu can fill in between the lines how ever.  That is my story and I am sticking to it. Congrats tom on a great bear.

Brett Woggle OH, 5 ft Black May 11

Manitoba black bear
Bretts first nite in the stand he had not seen anything  and then under his stand walked a huge something as dark was killing all chances of shooting. Darn what a RUSH!!! So when this nice 5 fter entered he knew it was a great bear and he pulled his Marlin 44 up and took the shoulder right out with one shot. Brett now has a great  Manitoba trophy. Congrats!!!

Ray FRiend Oh 5.5 ft Cinnamon

Colorphase bear Big Grass
First nite in the stand Ray has bears at the bait and after dark he is sure this cinnmon comes in when he cannot see his pins. Second nite after  seeing a sow and cub he has this awesome color phase bear approach from the left around 6 pm. . He has no worry in the world just keeps coming straight in and heads for the barrel. Rays heart is pumpn He pulls on this Instinct made by Fred Bear and nails the bear with a  great shot. Just 15 yds from the bait the bruin colapes. He turns the radio on and Wow there is someone there I really thought the guides never turned these things on till dark.  Judy answers and soon after the Quad starts. Ray was not sitting far from the road and in comes Warren with trailer, Judy with camera Of course and Tyler local farmer with a very strong back. Tyler showed up last nite about 11 to pick me up never saw him before. John and Warren and Tom were late getting others out so Tyler picks up the slack. Thanks Tyler.

Blue Berry snacks

Big grass bear bait
Now John this is not for Blue Berry pies this is Bear bait.  We mix creaam cheese and blue berrie to make our sweet for the Berry pails at the bait sites. Now if I was a bear I think it would be great to feast at Big Grass Baits

Oat barrels getting low

John takes oats from barrel to place to pails to put to a few baits which are oats are getting low. We would put in a whole barrel. Some oat barrels were empty in just 1 week and some after 3 weeks are showing sign of getting low. We do not want barrels to get completely empty or bears will move to another area.

Whos Elephant Trunk???

Whos chair at the end of the table was this on? Someone had a birthday in camp besides Tom. Who does it fit? There were many stories and laughs over this little item which hung on the wall by the stove. Where is it now? Roumer has it it went east in a Ford Truck in Manitoba and the Little Shit laughed all the way home. No I was not the culprit this time. But I hear Better watch your back in Spring bear 2011 because pay back will be sweet Old Ears has a memory as long as his trunk!!!!!   The saga will be solved in Apr 2011. We will keep you posted.

Brad well armed

Brad takes his bow and also his muzzleloader to the stand first night. It is amazing how much self confidence you get with a unloaded muzzleloader when a bear climbs your tree. First night this did happen by a smaller bear and then a larger bear came in at dark when Brad could no see the pins of his site. Maybe tomorrow.

Barrels home to Russell

big Grass Bear
Empty barrels can go home now. Every year we take afull barrel of oats in and the empty one comes out. Every barrel is cleaned out as if the pressure washer had been used. Not a kernal of oats or anything left in the barrels I am not sure how they get thier foot to the bottom to gt  it all but htey do. You can see some barrels are kind of dinted and bent this is from Bears not Judy running into them. The power in the forearms of those bruins is amazing when the chains are twisted and stretched like a elastic band. these barrels will get filled with oats and grease we will take some for fall bear and rest are ready for next spring stored in the barn so local bear visitors cannot help themselves.

Canadian Goslings

Spring is here when you start to see first hatches of these little fellows. Mama has them out in the water before I can get close but every year I love to try to pick one up, however sometimes not such a good scene when Judy is getting chased with a Mad Mama.

Dave Bagle Oh May 10 5 ft Cinnamon

Dave catches all his hunt on the video what an awesome bear to take with his muzzlelaoder. I know it is not huge but it is exactly the color I was looking for. Wait for clip to be uploaded to youtube. Way to go Dave Firstt on the pole this  3rd week.
