Bushels of Oats in bags placed in the barrels to keep the food supply for black bears coming from hibernation. Many pails of used french frie grease for scent and mixing with the oats collected and dumped.
Natural food
Beavers are trapped by local Manitoba trappers and chopped to pieces and placed in the barrels. Beavers are a natural food source in the spring for bears. Carcasses placed in barrels for the bears offer good food source, scent attractant for quality bear hunting.
Active baits
Guides check the sites regularly for activty at the sites, noting the amount eaten, foot prints and color of hair. Collecting the info from all the sites then to determine which hunter goes where . We leave it up to Tom as we feel he usually makes the correct decision on good bear hunting.

Unique Black Bear trophies of past years to appreciate if booking a hunt at Big Grass.
Have you ever gone on a trophy hunt or did any Trophy hunting? Do you spend time preparing your weapon and yourself for the hunt? tuning your bow, adjusting the scope for the bulls eye or even cleaning and oiling your stock and rest of the gun… I would think this is part of the whole hunt…. it would be terrible if the huge bruin walked into the bait, giving you the correct shot and You the hunter missed because your weapon was off… How disappointing would that be? Before our hunters go to the bear stand we have them shoot thier gun or bow just to make sure it didnt get bumped in traveling on plane or vehicle.. to all the hunters out there I would think this is part of the hunt.

there is no shortage of dogs and treats at Big Grass when Tom is at home.. When Jazie is on her diet we have raw carrots for treats, and all the others have learned to enjoy them also.. Copper is grown in to a 75lb and Sammy is about the same weight but 8 months older than Copper.. the Real true Chesapeake really shows in the Oaky. But we luv them all.. Jasmine now 13 is showing her age but still goes for a walk each day.

Wildgame Camera has captured 6500 shots of these fine wild animals all coming for a free lunch at the pit.. Do you ever place a camera out just to see what is happening? The lone coyote and the Brave Skunk buddies travel at nite at the start of Waterfowl season now just last yesterday they are brave and and feed in the light.. but there was fog… and the Ravens are just coming regularly one by one and in flocks.
