Stealth trail camera

moose magpie doeOver the summer the Stealth has captured some awesome pics of what is happening out on the back 40.   This Big old Bull moose in late September rubbing his horns on the small willows at the beginning of the Rut..  After a crazy windy day in Manitoba a tree was blown over to fall in view and this sassy Magpie spent a lot of time in view. then the capture of this lone coyote while Sassy was on the branch… And earlier in the summer this doe checks to see who else is visiting the area…

Clean trucks in Manitoba for Big Grass

Woweee and we have clean vehicles.. Dodge Ram was caked with mud on the under side , wheelwells and all over… Our last days of hunting were wet and the Mud seemed to STICK…  But now Tom has it all Cleaned up!

Limits of Frozen Canadas and ducks

cooler duckfr frozen gbrfr

From the field to the freezer and Home, Hunters take back their limits of Canadians and Ducks for processing at their homes. Here are frozen breasted out Canadians and ducks which have a wing left on for Identification when travelling across the border. Then they can remove the wing and pace to freezer for use in making Orange duck casserole, duck breast in Mushroom gravy and many other favorite recipes of the regular Joe hunter. Our Bird man Warren is well trained in Birdcleaning.

Fall harvest in Manitoba

bales combinesHarvest is well under way in the area, 50% of our cereal crops have been done and much canola is swathered waiting to be combined… We are seeing good migrations of snows arriving to the area..

Whitetail movement at Big Grass in Manitoba

big doe buck2 buck3 doefawnWe have some good activity out back at the deer stand.. Crop is not combined yet but the bucks are starting to move… Velvet is gone, Archery season is on now but it is very hard to pattern or fling a stick with so much food.. The one buck has been frequenting the area every other day so not too bad but at 2 am..  WE have a doe with 2 fawn who is very thin and I am wondering why. Her backbone is showing in some pics, but the fawns are big so she must be a good mother.

Bear hunting in Manitoba

bear1 Fall bear hunting in Manitoba with lots of activity at the bait sights.. There are very few wild berries this  fall so the food in the barrels is getting eaten by many bears.

Motion Camera catches the wildlife

bambi

I have motion camera out to see what is happening, one night I have Booboo bear and the next these two wonder in eating the tops of the clover and alfalpha… and then a taste of oats to finish of their evening stroll.  Also the tracks travel past the Corn and peas in the garden… Oh well everyone has to have a snack too..

Home grown at Big Grass

Busy Busy lots of produce off the garden, beans, carrots, cucumbers, dill, garlic, coriander, basil,   making pickles for the hunters this fall and next spring.  Hot bowl of soup and sandwich with home grown pickles makes a lunch break worth while in waterfowl season.

Waterfowl season just around the corner

Well swathing has begun in the area.  This is a HAPPY for Canadians large slough just at east end.. then driving along and I see a huge flock of Canadians lift of one slough heading near the swathing..   they must have radar set up for when the swathers start on the cereal crops… another farmer told me today they are landing in the peas that are not combined and they are making a Royal mess tramping it down so pickups wont pull up into header….  Ducks are showing on the ponds now, good numbers of teal and the uncolored mallards… We will be whackn and stackn pretty soon…
